Office of Access & Equity
The Office of Access & Equity is part of the Division of Institutional Integrity(link is external) and provides leadership to the University’s efforts to foster a welcoming and accessible environment. The office promotes equity in educational opportunity, programming, and employment and promotes an environment of respect while honoring civil rights for all members of the University community. The Office of Access & Equity is comprised of Disability Resources and Equal Opportunity.
Disability Resources
The Disability Resources (ODR) unit of Access & Equity is the designated office at Appalachian State University for promoting equity, access, and civil rights based on a disability. ODR oversees access needs, applicable University resources/supports, and eligibility of appropriate accommodations (adjustments, auxiliary aids/services and reasonable modifications) based on disability for students and visitors. ODR is also responsible for oversight of accessibility of programs, services and activities; disability compliance requirements; and the facilitation of removing existing disability-related barriers within the built environment.
Equal Opportunity
The Equal Opportunity (EO) unit of Access & Equity strives to make Appalachian State University a discrimination-free, harassment-free environment for faculty, students, and staff to work, live, and learn. EO oversees university equal opportunity policies, responds to complaints of discrimination & harassment based on protected class or workplace violence, conducts investigations, develops and delivers training and educational outreach to campus, as well as provides consultation to supervisors and managers regarding equal opportunity concerns and initiatives. EO also oversees compliance with the Clery Act.
